Damon has no intention of going quietly, but he's weak and seems to have no way out of the cell.
Jeremy's relationship with Vicki appears to be going well, although they still come from different worlds, it seems. He's a troubled guy, Jeremy.
Stefan feels guilty about being so mysterious and decides he's going to open up to Elena. Well, within reason. He tells her about his favorite music, books, and about Katherine.
She really appreciates it, but then she cuts her hand and things get weird. His face tenses up and becomes pale and he turns away. In a moment it passes, but she's quite suspicious.
The next day is the big charity car wash. Bonnie continues to discover she has magic powers. Witch-like, even. She sets a car on fire when a fellow classmate disses her.
Stefan, seemingly more aware of what's going on than anyone else in Bonnie's circle, helps her come to her senses. She goes home and cries to her mom that she doesn't know what's happening to her.
Elena becomes even more suspicious when an old black man swears he saw Stefan years ago - like 56 years ago. In 1953, when there was a horrible animal attack at the Salvatore homestead.
This is all getting too weird for Elena.
Caroline is starting to receive messages from Damon's mystical crow. Damon himself is appearing to her as well. She's his last hope of getting out.
Elena befriends a reporter and asks if she can get out the news station's archives. He agrees, and she takes off without telling Stefan.
Partying in the cemetery with her friends, Jeremy finds out that Vicki yoinked Elena's pain meds to get high off of. They get into a big fight and he leaves Vicki in the woods.
Caroline begins to see more visions of Damon and heeds his call, even though he doesn't know what he's doing. He brainwashes her into opening the door.
Zach tries to stop her, but the latch opens and Damon forces his way out. With a twist of the neck, Zach is dispatched. Caroline escapes just barely, as Damon lacks his ring to protect him from the sun. But he's out of the cage.
Stefan comes looking for Elena but can't find her. Matt tells him she's big on trust, and he'd better man up. Stefan goes home and finds that Damon has escaped ... but where is he?
In the newsroom, Elena researches what the old man said and finds out it is totally true. Her boyfriend hasn't aged a day since 1953.
Bit by bit, the pieces come together. He doesn't age. He can't be hurt. His face ...
Back in the woods, Vicki is still partying with her loser friends. As she goes to change the music on the car stereo, she sees a guy slumped over on the tailgate. It's you-know-who. She says he doesn't look good. He beckons her to come closer.
Don't do it, Vicki!!
Alas, within moments, Damon slumps into her arms, barely able to move. Until he feasts on her neck, and that evil look of demented bloodlust returns. Damon is so back. Then goes back for seconds.
Back at the Salvatore mansion, Stefan holds Zach, who is still motionless. Elena knocks on the door. As Stefan answers, she says "What are you?!"
