Heroes, S1-E16: Unexpected

The episode started off with Ted Sprague and Hana Gitelman meeting out in the Nevada desert. Hana knows what's up. She's figured out at least part of what Mr. Bennet is up to. Those marks on their necks are from a pneumatic needle gun. Later on Ted visits his wife's grave and tells her that he's on a mission to get the people who are responsible such a mess.

It figures that Ted, Hana, and Matt team up later since they're all under the mistaken impression that Bennet and his organization made them this way. Meanwhile, Matt wound up keeping the diamonds. He gave a ring to his wife and played it off like he bought it. She was getting it resized when the jeweler told her it was worth $40K. That wasn't too smart on his end.

Claire and Mrs. Bennet are still at home and Mrs. Bennet's behavior is weird. She goes from not remembering Claire (or Mr. Muggles) to acting like nothing's wrong. Her brain is probably toast. In a later scene, Claire broaches the memory wipe thing with Mrs. Bennet and while they're talking the latter collapses.

Mr. Bennet and the Haitian are then seen meeting with Isaac to see what, if anything, Isaac's been able to foretell with his paintings. Isaac didn't realize that Peter had absorbed Claude's power of invisibility. In a very strange twist, Bennet gives Isaac a gun in case Peter decides to pay him a visit. Isaac asks what he's supposed to do with the gun and the reply is simply: "Save the world."

Mohinder and Sylar wind up in Bozeman, Montana. They're tracking down the people on the list. They go to the body shop of a woman named Dale Smither who has super hearing. After meeting with the normal skepticism from Dale, Sylar (acting as Zane) shows her that he's special too and gets her to agree to the tests Mohinder wants to conduct. Of course, he just wanted to gain her trust.

Hiro and the gaming commission guy set off to find Ando and the waitress. The latter pair get to where they're going and Ando realizes that she's stolen a ton of poker chips from the casino and she pulls a gun on him. When Hiro shows up with the gaming cop, we find out that the cop is dirty, too. Then there's a shootout between the cop and the waitress and Ando gets shot in the arm.

Hiro and Ando manage to slip away and hide in the luggage compartment of a bus, but the waitress comes over and shoots Hiro. Don't it's okay! Hiro's powers still work and he stops the bullet and sends it back where it came from. Hiro winds up telling Ando to go home because he doesn't want to be responsible for Ando getting hurt or killed. Stan Lee makes his cameo as the bus driver and it looks like Hiro and Ando have parted ways for now.

We then get a pretty cool Jedi-in-training moment with Peter and Claude. Claude's giving Peter a beating with a broom stick in order to force Peter to use a power to stop him. Peter pulls out the telekinesis he absorbed from Sylar back in Texas and snaps the stick in half. That night, they're talking about evolution when Mr. Bennet and the Haitian show up and taser Claude. They're about to do the same to Peter when the coolest display of superpowers take place:

Peter stops the taser "bullets" with telekinesis, throws Claude off the roof, dives after him and takes off flying across the New York sky. Claude freaks out, though, because he now knows Bennet is after Peter and he wants to go back into hiding. He leaves Peter behind.

Mohinder and Sylar check in to a motel and talk about Chandra Suresh before Sylar gets all creepy on Mohinder for a brief moment. He talks about finding all the special people. Mohinder seems suspicious, but shrugs it off. As you probably guessed, Sylar went back to Dale's body shop that night. The next day, when Mohinder and Sylar go back, Sylar's having problems with the super hearing. Mohinder finds Dale (with the top of her head sliced off) and tries to call the cops. Sylar convinces him that it would be too suspicious and too many questions would be asked. He's right, of course, and Mohinder doesn't pick up on the deception.

While in the hospital with Mrs. Bennet, Claire tells the doctor about the whole mind wipe thing. Mrs. Bennet has a bruise on her brain. The Haitian went too far this last time. Naturally, the doctor doesn't believe Claire and tells Mr. Bennet about what Claire's been saying. Claire makes a scene at the hospital and her dad does a pretty good job of sounding sincere in his claim that all he's doing is protecting his family. We all know it goes deeper than that. But now he knows Claire knows what's going on. The Haitian is in trouble.

The closing sequences were absolutely awesome: The Ando/Hiro farewell mentioned above started us off. Then, we see the Bennet family coming back home from the hospital only to find that Ted and Matt were there waiting for them. After that, Peter goes to see Isaac and accuses him of being a sellout for drugs.

He thinks Isaac is trying to get rid of Peter so he can have Simone to himself. Peter is getting really good with using the array of powers at his disposal and launches Isaac across the room. Isaac grabs the gun Bennet gave him and Peter goes invisible. In all the ruckus, Isaac turns and shoots Simone! She dies.
